What’s in an apple cider vinegar diet?

For people on the go, every moment counts. And when it comes to their health, a simple dietary supplement would do, this is the reason why apple cider vinegar diet is so popular—however untested its benefits are. It is not only convenient but also cheap. You can either choose the vinegar liquid or buy dietary tablets available in the market (you can buy them even without medical prescription). And if you are really on a tight budget, you can make one at home. It’s really simple. And once you are done, you can easily try the apple cider vinegar diet which has become a craze nowadays.

Of course the main ingredient is the apple juice—which should either be unpasteurized or freshly pressed cider. For a small amount, you can do it with a blender. The blender will chop the apples in a jiffy and you can collect the pulp in a muslin bag, then you can collect the juice by squeezing the pulp onto a bowl. Now you can transfer the juice in a container with a spigot or a plug—which should be made of wood or clear glass—near its base. The reason for this is that the acidity in vinegar may actually have reaction to the glazes used in ceramics. A similar acidic reaction is seen when plastic and low-grade steel is used. Never use an aluminum container. Once you finished putting the juice in a container, the next thing that you have to do is to cover it loosely and put it in a dark place with a constant room temperature. The juice will begin to ferment and vinegar will form in a matter of days. This is a lengthy process, which can actually take from months to a year. If you want to speed up the process, you can add a cup of the previous batch into the container and stir it a bit with a spoon or spatula to oxidize the liquid. After a year, then it’s should be ready. And because it is unpasteurized, the development would continue. Some even say that it’s better after three to four years.

With apple cider vinegar diet, it will only take you about two teaspoons before a meal, so the vinegar you have prepared would be sufficient for a long period of time. But if you don’t want to wait, you can easily buy the liquid solution in health stores.

Generally, the risks of taking occasional apple cider vinegar are quite low—granting that your intake is of small amounts. But nobody can deny the fact—not even the apple cider vinegar diet proponents—that its main ingredient is acetic acid, present in most forms of vinegar. Whether it helps burn fat in our bodies or not, excessive amounts of acids in our body are dangerous for our health—especially in the digestive tract. And it will take years of successful studies and researches before this diet plan can get the nod of the medical community. Until that day, those who are into apple cider vinegar diet are taking it at their own risks.
